Autumn in Boroondara always delivers – crisp mornings, golden streets and a real energy in our neighbourhoods!

Like many of you, I’ve been paying close attention to the latest planning announcements from the Victorian Government. They’re coming thick and fast and it’s important we all understand what they mean, not just for Boroondara, but for Melbourne as a whole.

Council supports housing growth in the right locations and we’re actively planning to balance increased housing supply with the preservation of heritage and neighbourhood character. Retaining character and heritage isn’t about blocking development, it’s about ensuring we don’t lose what makes Boroondara unique.

We’ve been advocating strongly for our community and will continue to do so. While we still have serious concerns about the government’s proposed changes, following our discussions with the minister and her department, we have seen some updates made to their original proposals. This includes lower building heights in parts of the catchment around the activity centre zones and slightly smaller catchment areas.

We will continue to keep you updated as things progress.

It’s budget time. Our draft Budget for 2025–26 is being prepared right now. This is the plan for the year ahead, shaping the services that matter to you. We want your input – have your say when the draft opens for community consultation soon.

In our April-May Boroondara Bulletin you’ll find an inspiring local story about one resident’s journey to making their home more sustainable.

Boroondara is evolving and the decisions we make today will shape its future. We want to make sure that future reflects what’s important to you.

Cr Sophie Torney

Mayor of Boroondara
