2024 election

The next Council election is in October 2024.

The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) is responsible for administering Victorian Council elections.

There are 2 types of voters who are eligible:

  • state-enrolled, who must enrol and vote, as they are:
    • over 18
    • lived in Boroondara for longer than one month
    • Australian citizen
  • Council-enrolled, who can apply to enrol and vote, as they are:
    • ratepayers (property owner or occupier over 18, or corporation)
    • not already enrolled for Boroondara as a state-enrolled voter.

We’ve contacted potential Council-enrolled voters, encouraging them to apply to have their say in the upcoming Council election. If you enrol, you remain enrolled for all future elections until you are no longer eligible (for example, if you sell your property or become a State-enrolled voter in Boroondara).

You can only vote once and in one Ward. If you are a resident, you will vote in the Ward that you are a resident in. Voting is compulsory for everyone enrolled to vote. If you are enrolled to vote and do not vote, then you may receive a fine from the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC).

For more information about Council elections or to check your state-based enrollment for the upcoming election, visit the VEC website.
