Councillors are democratically elected to represent their communities and are expected to conduct themselves appropriately in all aspects of their public life.
The Local Government Act 2020 requires that Councillors observe the Model Councillor Code of Conduct. The Model Councillor Code of Conduct is prescribed in the Local Government (Governance and Integrity) Regulations 2020 and includes the standards of conduct expected to be observed by Councillors in the course of performing their duties and functions as Councillors. It is the responsibility of every councillor to promote compliance with the Model Councillor Code of Conduct and hold each other accountable.
