In our draft Budget 2024–25 we are continuing to invest in community wellbeing through quality services and facilities. Council libraries are warmly known as havens of learning for all ages. We will continue our work to redevelop Kew Library and the sporting and community facilities at Glenferrie Oval and the Michael Tuck Stand.

Through strong financial management, we will maintain high-quality services and infrastructure across Boroondara. This includes capital works like parks and open spaces, roads and buildings. We are also advancing sustainable actions that will touch areas from biodiversity to canopy cover, climate change to the circular economy.

To guide decision-making on the draft Budget we look to the Boroondara Community Plan. This records what you have told us is most important to you. You can read more about the upcoming renewal of the plan on our Boroondara Community Plan page. Consultation opens in July and I encourage you to have your say.

Another important consultation, on a proposed heritage strategy, is open now. In today’s modern world, it can be easy to overlook our rich and storied past. So much of Boroondara’s beloved heritage is unique and must be preserved for future generations. What aspects of our heritage do you think should be preserved? You can help shape our new heritage strategy by sharing your thoughts. Details on how to take part are on our What does heritage mean to you consultation page

Speaking of unique qualities, our street trees are iconic to our City. Boroondara has a significant and older tree population. Where powerlines run through tree canopies, Council must comply with the state’s powerlines clearance code. Unfortunately, the code requires excessive pruning. In addressing the issue, Council continues to work closely with the Electric Line Clearance Consultative Committee and is hopeful a new standard will be agreed on in the near future, reducing the need for excessive pruning.
