Eligibility criteria

  • You must live in the City of Boroondara.
  • Applications are for individuals only.
  • You must be:
    • performing or studying a recognised arts discipline at a national or international level, or
    • representing either Victoria or Australia at a SRV or ASC recognised sporting event. Information on governing bodies can be found via Sports and Recreation Victoria and Australian Sports Commission.
  • You must provide a letter of selection with your name and event details from the officially recognised governing body with your application.
  • Your application must be received prior to the event date; retrospective funding is not provided.
  • Previous grant recipients must have satisfactorily completed and returned the Notification of Participation form to Council for any previous grants received.
  • You must not have received funding through this grant program in the previous two financial years.
  • Your application must be submitted online with all supporting documentation.

Funding won't be provided for:

  • applicants who have received funding through this grant program in the previous 2 financial years
  • funding requests better served by other levels of government
  • activities linked to a political or religious initiative seeking to promote core beliefs
  • costs already incurred (that is, no retrospective funding)
  • community service or voluntary work or fundraising activities
  • personal development activities like attending training camps, demonstration events, academic projects
  • participation in:
    • commercially based events
    • non-competitive community-based events
    • school sport or university events
    • events that may be perceived as portraying a negative image like association with gambling, alcohol or smoking.
  • (Active Community grants only): applicants playing in or representing their school or university club or team, non-competitive community-based events.

Conditions of funding

  • You must:
    • present Council with an official notification of participation from the organising body
    • spend the grant as detailed in your application unless written approval is obtained
    • acknowledge the City of Boroondara in any public relations opportunities.
  • Council may, at its discretion, promote grant recipients to the community.
  • Council may make funding conditional on other specific conditions being met.
  • In the case that you are suspended or have to withdraw from the activity for which funding has been awarded, you will need to reimburse Council the full amount awarded.
  • If you have to return the awarded amount, you (or your parent or guardian) will be sent an invoice for the amount owing, to be paid immediately.
  • Should it be found that any of the information in the application form was incorrect or misleading, you will be required to reimburse Council for the full amount awarded.
  • Applications are for individuals only. Applications are processed in order of the date they're submitted and evidence to confirm eligibility is received.
  • Council reserves the right to refuse funding. Once the allocated funds for any given financial year are exhausted, no additional funding will be available for activities in that financial year.
  • If you are experiencing financial hardship, please speak to the Recreation Officer. Applicants who demonstrate financial hardship by providing evidence of a current government means tested card can apply for an additional 20 per cent funding and may be able to receive funding before competing in the event.
  • Within six months of the event/activity. You must provide Council with:
    • evidence that you participated in the event or activity (such as a review or notation)
    • a short statement (no more than 250 words) about your experience at the event or activity and how it has affected you
    • one image of no less than 1MB. Council reserves the right to use this image for promotional purposes.
