We’re making some improvements to Dickins Corner shopping strip, on the corner of Doncaster Road and Burke Road in Balwyn North. The aim is to:
- enhance the shopping strip’s appearance
- add more greenery
- improve accessibility and safety for pedestrians.
Works to be completed
The improvements will include:
- upgrading the footpaths using asphalt
- installing public furniture like seating, bins and bicycle hoops
- greening the shopping strip by installing garden beds and stainless-steel climbing frames for Jasmine plants to grow on
- adding more shade to the shopping strip and car parks by planting 12 new trees (shown as pink circles on the plan below)
- making some kerb and level adjustments to the north side of Maud Street near Burke Road to create more separation between the car parks and the footpath.
Start of works and their impact
Subject to approvals from the Department of Transport and Planning, we expect to start works from mid-January 2025. It will be delivered in sections to minimise disruption to the community and traders. Weather permitting, each section is expected to take 2 to 3 weeks to complete.
During works for each section, you can expect:
- restricted parking in front of the works site
- pedestrian access to be maintained by traffic controllers guiding customers into impacted businesses
- 6 to 8 car parks at the Doncaster Road carpark next to the Balwyn North Pharmacy to be used for storage.
All works are planned to be undertaken at night except for those in the Council car park and on Maud Street. We will notify you prior to starting works.
