Works to improve pedestrian safety and access outside Hawthorn Arts Centre are now complete.

As part of the works, we installed:

  • Removable bollards: 15 bollards around Hawthorn Arts Centre entrances to provide a barrier between cars and pedestrians.
  • Public seating: concrete benches which prevent vehicles from moving too close to the footpath and allow pedestrians a place to stop and rest.
  • Banner poles: six banner poles positioned between Burwood Road and the footpath in front of the building.

The banner poles serve as an additional barrier between pedestrians and vehicles. They also allow promotion of local events to the community and are considerate to the character of the much-loved Hawthorn Arts Centre precinct.

Why we delivered the works

In the Boroondara Community Plan 2021-31, our community told us they value safe public places, which contribute to a sense of connection and harmony within our city.

These works are a proactive response to this and we're committed to making residents and visitors feel safer in public spaces through upgrading our civic areas.

Timeline

Works were finalised in early July 2024 and took 3 weeks to complete.
