We’re repairing the Camberwell Civic Centre clock tower clocks to return them to full functionality and ensure their longevity.
The clock tower is an iconic local landmark built in 1891 during the Victorian period in the free classical style (source: Camberwell Historical Society).
About the works
The repair works will be completed in two stages.
Stage 1 (internal)
Stage 1 works involve the replacement of the clock’s internal mechanism, which will occur from inside the clock tower. The clock will be inoperable for approximately 6 to 7 weeks, while we undertake the intricate and precise manufacture and installation of custom-made components.
Stage 2 (north-east clock face)
Stage 2 works involve repairs and greasing to the shafts from the external north-east face of the clock tower (facing Camberwell Road).
During work, some minor disruptions to pedestrians are expected but pedestrian access will be maintained.
