Victoria Park playground in Kew was upgraded in 2022. It offers a mix of challenging, active, sensory and nature-based play options for children of all ages and abilities.
Playground features
Challenging climbing opportunities
We've built an adventure trail with:
- a bamboo forest
- an embankment climb with options of a climbing rope or climbing grips
- a 6-metre-high challenging rope pyramid climb
- ‘Ninja Warrior’-style elements like jumping pads, a warped wall and rope scramble net to reach the top of the bluestone embankment.
Active play opportunities
- a family-friendly scoot, skate and ride pump track
- fitness station with pull-up bar, gorilla bars, leg raises, body dips and roman rings.
Sensory and nature play
- water pump with a log and creek channel
- sandpit with an inclusive play edge
- yarning circle with natural seating
- sensory garden bed and shade trees
- nature play with balancing logs, steppers and sensory planting
- build your own cubby – an accessible ‘lean-to’ style frame where children can create a cubby with sticks and other loose materials
- sensory art elements throughout the playground to encourage exploration and discovery.
Play equipment for all ages and abilities
- flying fox with an accessible harness seat
- 2 in-ground trampolines located near each other, one of which is wheelchair-accessible
- giant basket swing suitable for all ages, abilities and up to 5 users at a time
- 5-bay swing frame, including a combined infant and adult seat, infant seat, adult harness seat and 2 sling seats
- single spinner
- an accessible sandpit edge.
Bluestone wall and embankment
We've kept the existing bluestone wall and embankment, and added:
- new access to the top of the embankment
- a new accessible-grade footpath
- a ‘nature trail’ with logs, sensory planting and play elements
- climbing grips designed for varying abilities
- a 4-metre-high tube slide, facing south away from the summer sun
- transparent protective fencing at the top of the wall
- different places to sit, to grant supervision from all perspectives.
Stay a while
To encourage longer visits, Victoria Park playground has:
- shade sails
- improved picnic and barbecue facilities
- accessible toilets
- accessible car parking bays
- clear pathways.
