A dog attack can include any incident where a dog rushes at, attacks, bites, harasses or chases a person or animal (other than vermin), even if there is no injury caused to the animal or person.

Call us on (03) 9278 4444 as soon as possible if you or your pet is attacked by a dog. If the attack is happening right now, an officer will attend immediately. Otherwise, we have council officers on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist. 

Record the details

Make a record of everything relevant about the dog attack, including:

  • time of the attack
  • location (nearest residential address or exact park location)
  • description of the dog and owner
  • taking photos of any injuries
  • keeping copies of any records from your doctor or vet.

Assessment and response

The Council Officer will make an assessment and respond within 24 hours to discuss appropriate action.
