Our newspapers and magazines collection

Get free access to an enormous range of local and international newspapers and magazines online with your library membership. 

You can also read printed copies of some newspapers and magazines at your local library branch.

Please note: some online newspapers are only available when using a library computer or when logged in to library Wi-Fi.

To access online news and magazines, you'll be prompted to enter your 14-digit library membership number (under the barcode on your library card) and your PIN number.

The Age

We have digital copies of The Age newspaper. Back-issues are available for up to 6 months.

We have digital copies of The Australian Financial Review printed newspaper. Back-issues are available for up to 3 years.

The British Newspaper Archive

We have historical news reports, family notices, letters to the editor, obituaries and advertisements from newspapers in the United Kingdom. There is a limit of 2 users at a time.

Choice magazine

Read current and archived editions of Choice and Choice Computer magazine on the Flipster website or app.

Sign up to Flipster to read Choice

  1. For a tablet or phone, download the Flipster app for Android at the Google Play store or the iOS app at the App Store.
  2. Tap 'Get started'.
  3. Search for and select 'City of Boroondara Library Service'.
  4. Sign in using your library membership number.

For a desktop or laptop computer, sign in on the Flipster website.

To access past issues, open the current edition and then select the bookshelf icon to open 'All issues' 

Libby Magazines 

Access more than 4,000 Australian and international magazines to read online or download to your mobile device.

Sign up on a mobile device

Go to the Meet Libby website and download the Libby app to your device.

  1. Tap 'Yes' to confirm you have a library membership. Then select 'I'll search for a library'.
  2. Search for 'Boroondara Library Service' and log in with your library membership number and PIN.

To find a particular magazine, use the search function or scroll down and select the magazines tile to explore the collection.

The Monthly

We have digital copies of The Monthly magazine available to read on the BorrowBox website or app. Back issues are available from February 2023.

Log into your BorrowBox account and go to the ePress menu to find The Monthly.

Newsbank Newspapers

Newsbank provides access to more than 600 newspapers from across Australia, including digital replicas of many of the major daily papers. Back issues of The Progress Leader are available from 2001 to 2020.

Log in at the Newsbank Newspapers website and enter your library membership number.

Daily newspapers are available from mid-to-late morning.
