Your responses to our Sustainable Actions Survey show many ways to make greener homes and lives.

During our 2022 Sustainable Living Festival, we launched a survey to learn about the sustainable habits you’ve formed in your daily lives. The survey remained open to our wider community until early-2023 and the results are in.

From small actions such as choosing products in recycled packaging to larger ones like installing solar panels, you’ve found many ways to be more sustainable. The most common actions of our 621 respondents were:

  • 88% always separate food waste for FOGO or home composting
  • 86% often or always use a refillable water bottle or coffee cup
  • 81% always or often use a shorter dishwasher or washing machine cycle or only use these machines when full.

We’ll use the survey results and other data sources to help guide the education, programs and services we can provide to support our community in their sustainability efforts.

We heard that cost, living in a rental property or not having enough information were factors holding some back from making sustainable choices.

If you’re keen to be more eco-friendly, here are some ways to get started.

  • Choose electricity over gas: We’ll be releasing a ‘Getting off Gas’ guide before the end of the year. Keep an eye out in the Bulletin or our social media.
  • Opt for solar hot water over gas: Solar Victoria offers a rebate of up to $1,000 on eligible heat-pump and solar hot-water systems.
  • Install solar panels: Solar Victoria also offers a solar-panel rebate of up to $1,400 for landlords and households. Find out more on the Solar Victoria website.
