All set for a new Hays Paddock playground

an artist's impression of a timber playground

Construction of the new all-abilities playground at Hays Paddock in Kew East has begun.

The original playground opened in 1998 as one of Australia’s first inclusive playgrounds, providing side-by-side play opportunities for all children.

Due to its age and condition, it’s ready for renewal. Our community told us through consultation how important it was to ensure the new playground continued to cater to children and families of all abilities.

The new design does just that, with features including:

  • an accessible timber structure with bridges and ramps, activity panels and slides
  • an upgraded sand-play area with accessible tables, animal sculpture and a digger
  • a more challenging rope-climb zone
  • a sensory water zone.

The playground is closed during construction, which is expected to be completed by mid-2024.

Find out more about the playground at our Hays Paddock playground renewal page.

What’s next for renewal

Our Playground Replacement Program ensures we provide engaging, diverse and safe playgrounds for our community.

Next up for construction this financial year is Kate Campbell Reserve playground in Kew, following consultation in 2022.

Upcoming consultations:
