Road to continuous improvement

Did you know Council manages more than 655 km of local roads and laneways in Boroondara?

Without intervention, roads will typically have a 30-year lifespan. Road deterioration is slow to begin and increases during its middle years before slowing again. By spending wisely at the appropriate time, we can extend a road’s useful life by decades.

Data-driven decisions

Strategic asset management involves deciding when to intervene and invest in an asset, and the task is now clearer.

Council uses new predictive-modelling software to optimise our decision-making process for roads and all our infrastructure.

This software can simulate the condition of infrastructure assets over the next 5, 10 and 20 years. It allows us to make better, data-driven decisions to allocate spending when and where we need to on roads, footpaths, bridges, buildings, stormwater drains, sportsgrounds and more.

Through this process, we can deliver sound infrastructure at a high standard, and the best value for our community.

We’re evolving how we work to provide and maintain infrastructure assets that:

  • meet your needs and expectations
  • remain fit for purpose longer
  • provide the best possible community benefit.
