Shifting gears to sustainable transport

Leaving the car at home for a low-emissions trip has multiple benefits, and we can help you on your way.

Driving remains Australia’s most popular way to travel, with 79% of people who travelled to work on Census Day in 2021 choosing to take the car – but it’s also responsible for roughly half of Australia’s transport emissions.

There are many ways to explore Boroondara using sustainable transport – reducing emissions, traffic congestion, and even your waistline.

Use public transport

You can see a list of public transport specific routes to help you plan your journey on our Sustainable transport page.

Walk for short trips

Find the closest walking trails near you on our Find a bike or walking path page. You can also find a walking group to make new friends along the way by using the search tool on our Events page.

Hop on a bike

Visit our Cycling and walking page to find cycling routes and options to help you build your cycling confidence. These include:

  • attending a bike skills workshop
  • joining a bicycle group
  • finding bike repair stations around our off-road paths
  • learning where you can safely park your bike around Boroondara.

Get an electric vehicle

Electric vehicles now have an average battery driving range of 480 km. With the typical Australian driving 38 km per day, range anxiety is a thing of the past.
