Keeping safe in hot weather

As temperatures start to rise, having a plan to keep yourself and others safe can make a big difference in hot weather.

Everyone can be affected by extreme heat, but young children, pregnant women, seniors and people with disability can be more vulnerable. And let’s not forget about our household pets.

Keep yourself and those around you safe by:

  • spending time in cool or air-conditioned buildings
  • drinking plenty of water
  • never leaving children, vulnerable adults or pets in cars
  • staying up to date with weather forecasts
  • checking in on others.

Remember that a cool bath, a wet towel to lie on, a place next to a fan and having plenty of fresh water works just as well for animals too.

If you or anyone you know feels unwell on a hot day, call Nurse-on-call on 1300 60 60 24 or call 000 in an emergency.
