A recipe for healthy habits

Small changes can make a big difference – try our recipe cards and activities during Men’s Health Week.

Running from 12 to 18 June, Men’s Health Week highlights the importance of men’s physical health as well as their mental and emotional wellbeing.

This year’s theme is ‘Healthy Habits’ – encouraging men and boys to build healthier routines by making small changes that can make a real difference to their health and wellbeing. City of Boroondara will hold a series of activities in line with this theme, including:

  • a special men’s-focused Seniors Exercise Park come-and-try session hosted by Council’s Active Ageing Team in Victoria Park, Kew
  • A Wellbeing Conversation – Eat Yourself Happy with Joel Feren, which will explore how improving gut health can boost overall mood and wellbeing
  • a list of reading and resource recommendations from our libraries team, tailored to men’s physical and mental health.

Getting started with healthy eating

Chet is a Boroondara dad who has made a habit of healthy eating after his daughter was diagnosed with diabetes last year.

Having to consider her nutrient and carbohydrate requirements, and needing to adjust serving sizes, has changed the way he and his family think about food.

Chet’s go-to dish that works well for his daughter’s needs is Italian meatballs in tomato sauce – a recipe that’s become a hit with the family.

'This has now become one of our family favourites and is a great way to sneak some veggies in without the kids noticing,' says Chet. 'It gave us confidence to try more things.'
