We are upgrading the playground at Burwood Reserve in Glen Iris due to its age and condition.
About the upgrade
This playground upgrade aims to:
- improve accessibility
- offer a range of play experiences for children
- ensure the playground is enhanced for families to enjoy into the future.
Key features of the upgrade include:
- a combination play unit with platforms, slides and climbing suitable for younger and older children, and play opportunities underneath
- a rope climbing unit
- a bounce pad
- monkey bars and turnover bars at different heights
- a triple swing frame
- logs and boulders for seating and play
- refurbished carousel.
Other features to be included in the wider playground space include:
- improved paths, seating and gathering areas
- built shade over parts of the playground
- more trees to increase shade in the future
- a dedicated accessible car parking space (which will replace 2 existing car spaces close to the playground entry)
- removal of the overhead electricity line.
Community consultation
We invited our community to share feedback to help guide the design for the new playground.
We received feedback over 2 rounds of consultation in late-2023 and early-2024. Thank you to everyone who had their say.

Status
Early works to remove the overhead electrical wire at the playground are expected to happen from September 2024 (subject to authority requirements and approvals).
The playground and car park may close for a few days during these works. Adjacent powered facilities like the toilet block, barbecue and some lights may also be impacted for 2 weeks after the works.
We then expect to start building the new playground from the first half of 2025.
