Saturday 17 May marks IDAHOBIT – International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination.
Join us for a range of fun, free and low-cost activities to celebrate IDAHOBIT this year.
What's on
Get involved at these local events:
- Hear ABC journalist and author Jason Om discuss his unflinching memoir All Mixed Up in a free talk at Hawthorn Library on Thursday 15 May.
- Enter the hilarious world of folk duo the Tuck Shop Ladies with their special free live show for IDAHOBIT at Kew Court House on Saturday 17 May.
- Specially for rainbow families and allies, book a visit to Kew Traffic School for our IDAHOBIT-themed rainbow public ride session (for ages 6 and under) on Friday 16 May.
- Join a free online information session on Thursday 29 May for parents and carers to learn about practical allyship for thriving LGBTQIA+ young people.
Everyone’s welcome to celebrate IDAHOBIT and encouraged to wear rainbow colours to show you're an ally and support LGBTQIA+ inclusion.
Event bookings are essential.
Progress Pride flag
The Progress Pride flag (pictured above) is now flown year-round outside Hawthorn Arts Centre. To mark IDAHOBIT you’ll also see us flying the flag at Kew Library and the Boroondara Civic Precinct in Camberwell.
Community roundtables
Our community roundtables meet twice a year and provide a strong and visible network for LGBTQIA+ people in Boroondara. Participants either live, work or study locally and share valuable insights on Council activities and community consultations. This group also helps us create more safe and inclusive programs and events throughout the year.
We warmly invite people aged 18+ and in particular older adults who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or intersex (LGBTI) to join the conversation. For more information and to get involved, call us on (03) 9278 4017 or visit our LGBTQIA+ page.
