A vision for Glenferrie Oval

Help create a new chapter for this historic community precinct.

Hawthorn’s Glenferrie Oval precinct is one of Boroondara’s most-loved sporting and community facilities. We’re making a series of improvements to create a space that will keep it at the heart of our community.

The next stage is the revitalisation of Glenferrie Oval and its heritage-listed Michael Tuck Stand. Built in 1938 in distinctive Moderne style, it was the flagship facility for the Hawthorn Football Club, which played at the oval from 1905 to 1973.

Our vision

We’ve developed a vision for the precinct that will:

  • celebrate the historical significance of the Michael Tuck Stand and its unique connection to Hawthorn’s history and culture
  • improve the quality, safety and functionality of the Michael Tuck Stand and Glenferrie Oval
  • maximise community use through access to health and fitness, arts and culture, and sport and recreation activities
  • create opportunities for community connection for all ages and abilities
  • connect with the new open space to be created where the now-demolished Ferguson Stand stood.

Have your say

We want your feedback on the vision to help revitalise these community spaces. You can have your say by completing our survey online by Monday 11 September.

Find the survey, and more information, on our Glenferrie Oval precinct revitalisation consultation page on the Engage Boroondara website

Creating new open space

The dilapidated Ferguson Stand was demolished in June/July and a new open space for community use will be created in its place.

We expect to start landscape works in early-2024, and are working towards completion by mid-2024. Find out more at our Glenferrie Oval community consultation and final design page on the Engage Boroondara website.
