Our young people leading the way

Young people drawing and coming up with ideas

More than 500 grade 5 and 6 students and their teachers from local schools came together in September for the Boroondara Youth Leadership event at Hawthorn Arts Centre.

In a day of learning, leadership and laughter, they took part in workshops with a focus on critical thinking and communication. They were asked to identify their individual leadership skills, practise teamwork, and motivate others to support a community challenge or issue.

Council acknowledges the financial support of the Victorian Government in delivering the Boroondara Youth Leadership event.

Boroondara Youth Awards

Keep an eye out on our website, social channels and in the November Bulletin for the winners of the 2023 Boroondara Youth Awards. This is the second year we’ve run the awards, to celebrate young people and the local organisations that support them.

Marking Youth Fest 2023

Throughout September, the Boroondara Youth Hub celebrated Youth Fest, a Victoria-wide event highlighting the contributions of young people in their community.

To mark the occasion Lauren William, host of the Hub’s Bloom podcast, sat down with Boroondara local Arlo Fehring to discuss what diversity and inclusion looks like for young people with disability. The Bloom podcast has been created for young people by young people in Boroondara. It aims to give them a collective voice, while creating understanding, awareness and connection.

You can listen to the full conversation with Arlo by visiting the Soundcloud website.

Lighting up The Nook

The lights are on at the Boroondara Youth Hub, with a new student-designed neon artwork now glowing over designated reading space The Nook. In a collaborative project with Swinburne University of Technology, more than 30 students put together designs for the sign. Diploma of Design students Dina Sabeeh and Kanwara Samranwong came up with the final vivid and playful artwork.

Check out The Nook at the Boroondara Youth Hub, Level 1, 360 Burwood Road, Hawthorn.
