Local council elections will be held this October by post.

Councillors are elected by you every 4 years to make decisions on local issues, services and future plans. You can help elect the candidate you think best represents the interests of your local community.

The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) runs the election, including candidate nominations.

Get ready to vote

Check your enrolment

You’re required to vote if you are 18 years old or above, an Australian citizen and live in Boroondara.

Check your enrolment details and update by 4 pm on 7 August if needed at the VEC's enrolment page.

Note: The VEC adjusted our ward boundaries, so you may notice you’re in a different ward for the election.

Vote using the VEC mailout

Ballot packs are mailed out from 7 October and need to be completed and posted by 6 pm on Friday 25 October. Submit your vote by mail or by visiting the VEC office in person.

If you don’t vote, you may be fined.

Council is restricted during the election

While you’re voting, Council will be restricted in what we can share and the decisions we can make. This ensures the election is fair for all candidates.

Routine service delivery and administration won’t be affected.

Consider representing your community

Councillors have an opportunity to have a positive and tangible impact on their community today and into the future.

As a group, councillors lead the decision-making at Council and act to represent their community’s interests.

If you think you could be a councillor for one of our 11 wards:

  • learn more about the role
  • complete mandatory online training run by Local Government Victoria
  • nominate yourself between 9 am on 9 September and 12 pm (noon) on 17 September.
