As planning and construction of the North East Link progresses, we continue to advocate for the best outcomes for our community.

Community discussion: North East Link

During the evening on Tuesday 29 April 2025, we’re hosting a session for our community to hear from Council and each other about the North East Link and its impact here in Boroondara.

If you’re interested, please save the date and subscribe to our mailing list. We’ll send you more information about the session in the coming weeks.

Columba Street Reserve tree planting

We successfully advocated for funding from the North East Link Program to plant over 130 new trees in Columba Street Reserve, Balwyn North.

Right now, we’re preparing the soil and garden beds for planting. We’ll start planting trees during autumn.

Burke Road to Tram Road Urban Design and Landscape Plan (UDLP)

In late-2024, the Minister for Planning approved the Burke Road to Tram Road UDLP. This includes the Koonung Creek Reserve.

We prepared a submission on behalf of our community. Some of our feedback was incorporated in the final UDLP, including realigning the noise walls and removing state government assets from the Koonung Creek Reserve design, to give our community back as much open space as possible in the reserve.

We continue to advocate for the Koonung Creek Reserve to be fully reinstated in line with Council’s preferred design. You can read more about this on our Koonung Creek Reserve Master Plan page.

Hoddle to Street to Burke Road Urban Design and Landscape Plan (UDLP)

The contract for the next and final UDLP was awarded to Momentum consortium. We expect they’ll release their UDLP for public exhibition this year, covering Hoddle Street to Burke Road.

This will be the last opportunity our community will have to provide feedback on the designs for the North East Link. We’ll update our community when their consultation opens.

Flooding concerns

Like our community, we have concerns about potential flooding impacts from the North East Link in the Koonung Creek Reserve and wider project area.

We’re currently updating our flood modelling across Boroondara, so it’s important we understand how the North East Link project may impact flooding in our city. The North East Link Program have not yet provided us with the flooding information we’ve requested.

We’re encouraging our community to contact the North East Link Program and the Minister for Transport Infrastructure asking them to release all flooding related information to local councils and the community.
