Registrations are now open for our Backyard Biodiversity program.
Starting from Wednesday 1 May, this free course gives you the tools to make your backyard, courtyard or balcony more wild-life friendly. As part of the course, you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Attend workshops: over 4 weeks, participants will be invited to attend in-person workshops, garden tours and visit an indigenous nursery.
- Gain advice from a landscape designer: this includes an optional visit to your home. Our landscape architect can assess your garden by looking at:
- plantings and plant species
- layout and design
- landscaping features such as seats and logs. - Take home a free voucher: this can be used to purchase native plants and help kick-start your habitat gardening journey.
For up-to-date information about the Backyard Biodiversity workshops and how they’ll be delivered, visit our Create a wildlife-friendly garden page.

The course is open to all Boroondara residents and will run for 4 weeks from Wednesday 1 May. We also run an online version of this course in spring.
Registrations close on Sunday 21 April unless booked out prior.
Help give nature a helping hand
Biodiversity is important in gardens because it helps support the animals that live in our city. Animals will live in any area that has a place to live (shelter and space) and food and water.
Making your garden friendly for pollinators like native bees and butterflies is also a great way to help the health of the environment and its ecosystem.
Climate Action Plan
This project responds to an action in our Climate Action Plan. We commit to deliver education workshops and programs that support the protection and enhancement of our biodiversity. Find out more about this on our Climate Action Plan page.
