On Friday 17 May, we recognise IDAHOBIT, also known as International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination. It is an important occasion to celebrate LGBTQIA+ communities and raise awareness for the work still needed to reduce discrimination.
Celebrate at these free events
- Community film screening – Pride is an uplifting movie about LGBTQIA+ people from London coming together to support a community of Welsh miners during the miners’ strike in 1984.
- Glitter Party for young people in high school – an afternoon event including face painting, a photo booth, balloon twisting, glitter fairy floss and snacks.
We will also be flying the Progress Pride Rainbow flag at Boroondara Civic Precinct in Camberwell and Kew Library.
Introducing community round tables
To reinforce our commitment to hearing the voices of our LGBTQIA+ communities, we are hosting bi-annual LGBTQIA+ community round tables.
At these meetings, a group of committed community members meet to share their ideas with Council about how we can improve the health, wellbeing and inclusion of LGBTQIA+ communities.
The first 2 round tables were held in November 2023 and March 2024. The next round table will be held later this year.
