Join photography expert Alwyn Hanson from Alwyn's Photo School Melbourne for a slide show of photographs by famous women photographers Lee Miller and Margaret Bourke White.
These trail blazing women were prominent photographers with Vogue and Life magazines. Then they served with the US Army in Europe from 1944 to 1945, photographing the war, including combat and the horror of the death camps.
Lee Miller documented the US army through France and into Germany for Vogue. Her biography The Lives of Lee Miller by Anthony Penrose inspired the film Lee, starring Kate Winslett.
Margaret Bourke White was bombed in Moscow, torpedoed in the Mediterranean, flew with the US Air Force over Germany and finally saw the end of the Reich in Germany.
Both left us with images of awe and sadness.
