This special event will spotlight women in trades – specifically, the life and achievements of Alice Anderson, a pioneering woman in the automotive industry, with insights shared by Samantha Lovrich, founding member of The Alice Anderson Memorial Project. Complementing this historical perspective, Jane Clancy, Manager of Building and Trades at Swinburne University of Technology, will offer a contemporary lens on women working in male-dominated industries today. This discussion will explore the challenges, breakthroughs, and ongoing journey of women carving out space in trades and other traditionally male-centred fields.Be part of this empowering conversation that honours past women in trades and will inspire future female trailblazers.This event is part of our International Women’s Day program of events. Alongside Loretta Smith, Alice’s biographer (and author of A Spanner in the Works), and Tina Russo, another Boroondara woman, they are on a mission to celebrate and preserve the incredible legacy of Alice Anderson’s life and achievements. Samantha is also the co-founder and Legal Tech Helper CEO, a female-led tech start-up that’s changing the game in innovative consumer-focused legal technology.About Jane ClancyJane Clancy is the Manager of Building Trades at Swinburne University of Technology and has worked in and around construction her whole career. This includes working with national building industry advisory boards, employer and employee associations, and a range of businesses. Jane’s role at Swinburne allows her passion for teaching and mentoring the next generation of tradies to flourish. She excels at building an inclusive teaching team at Swinburne and is dedicated to transforming education through industry engagement and promoting social inclusion, all while driving positive change.
