Event details
Join exhibiting artist Susie Raz in conversation with a group of contemporary women artists about their experiences of the art world. Hear about the role models who have inspired them, the challenges they’ve faced and defining triumphs in their careers.
This panel discussion will explore how the experiences of the past resonate with today’s artists, revealing the persistent fight for recognition in a historically male-dominated field.
This event is presented alongside the community exhibition ‘On Whose Shoulders I Stand’ by Susie Raz.
Registrations are required. Light catering provided.
About the exhibition
‘On Whose Shoulders I Stand’ is a heartfelt homage to the overlooked women of Australian modernism, brought to life through Susie Raz’s vivid, large-scale self-portraits. Each painting is also a performance, where Raz embodies the struggles and triumphs of 20th-century female artists, creating an intimate dialogue across time that bridges their stories with her own.
This project sheds light on the systemic erasure of women from art history while serving as a transformative journey for Raz. By painting herself into these narratives, she claims space alongside these women, confronting and transcending her inherited self-doubt as an artist.
