We offer complimentary tours of Town Hall Gallery and Hawthorn Arts Centre, tailored for schools, universities, community groups and individuals.

Tours can be tailored depending on the group’s interests and focus on either the current exhibitions at Town Hall Gallery or provide insight into the history, heritage​ and current operations of Hawthorn Arts Centre.

Tours are a wonderful way to learn about the cultural significance of the venue and enrich understanding of the art exhibitions on display.

  • your group details
  • contact information
  • tour preference
  • date selection. 

Once the form is submitted, a staff member from the Boroondara Arts team will contact you within 5 business days to confirm your request.

About the tours

Town Hall Gallery – Exhibition Tour

Discover your local art gallery by taking part in an educational self-guided tour or guided tour of Town Hall Gallery. Explore the current exhibitions on display, including one major exhibition and two community exhibitions. Free entry.

Educational self-guided tours

Explore the current exhibitions at your own pace with resources and activities tailored to engage primary and secondary students aligned with the Victorian Curriculum. Curators may be available to introduce the space to students upon entry.

Duration: 20 to 40 minutes.

Guided tour

Hear directly from a Town Hall Gallery curator as they take you on a guided tour of the latest exhibitions.

Duration: 60 minutes.

Hawthorn Arts Centre – Venue Tour

Discover the history behind Hawthorn Arts Centre, formerly known as the Hawthorn Town Hall. Built in 1889, this important cultural venue includes state-of-the-art galleries, performing arts spaces and facilities for Boroondara Youth and the community.

Venue tour

Walk through the beautiful spaces of Hawthorn Arts Centre and learn about its fascinating history. A Boroondara Arts staff member will provide insight into the building’s past and present operations.
