Electric bikes (e-bikes) are becoming more and more popular because they:
- are stylish and affordable
- have great battery life options
- improve health and wellbeing
- are a cheap form of sustainable transport
- enable family and friends of mixed fitness level and cycling abilities to spend time outdoors together
- empower the aging population and people with disability or illness to remain active and mobile.
In this session, e-bike expert, Thijs (Tyse) van der Heijden will explain the ins and outs of e-bikes to help you decide whether it's the right option for you and which type best suits your needs.
Thijs will cover:
- What is an e-bike: pedal-assist and throttles
- Types and styles: step-through, compact, cargo, folding, mountain bike and road
- E-bike systems: hub drive and centre drive
- Gearing options: internal and external
- Battery life and charging
- Transporting and taking care of your e-bike.
After the presentation, you can try riding an e-bike. Helmets will be provided, but feel free to bring your own. Please wear appropriate footwear.
