Some of our services are closed or have different hours over the Christmas and New Year period.

We are committed to making our information and services available to everyone, regardless of disability or technology.

This is a requirement under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, which states: “Australian Government agencies are required to ensure that information and services are provided in a non-discriminatory accessible manner”.

Accessible content

  • As much as possible, we have tried to explain Council services and processes in plain language so it is easy to follow.
  • Content is displayed in a way that makes it easy to read and scan.
  • We have converted most non-accessible documents to page content, or created an accessible version of the PDF or Word document if possible.
  • Most pages have an icon near the top for a program called ReadSpeaker. If you select the icon, a voice will read out the page content.

Assistive technologies

The site has been designed and built to be compatible with software and systems used by people with disabilities (known as assistive technologies), including:

  • screen readers
  • screen magnifiers
  • voice recognition
  • standard accessibility features in mobile devices.

PDFs

We are currently working to uplift the accessibility of all PDFs on our website. This includes an organisation-wide upskill of staff on how to create accessible documents. Until we achieve this goal, please contact us if you are not able to use our documents.

Third-party systems

Some third-party systems that we link to from the website may have different levels of accessibility that are out of our control. However, when we upgrade or replace these systems, we include accessibility as part of the requirements in our procurement process to improve access for all our customers.

How to get help if you can’t access information

If you have any problems using the website or accessing the documents on it, please call us anytime on (03) 9278 4444 or email [email protected] and we will treat your request as a priority.

About our level of accessibility compliance

In June 2022, Digital Access at Vision Australia reviewed the accessibility of the City of Boroondara website against the Level AA success criteria of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 specification. The Working Draft of WCAG 2.2 was also assessed. This assessment was in line with the internationally recognised Website Accessibility Conformance Evaluation Methodology (WCAG-EM) 1.0.

We are currently working through recommendations from Vision Australia to rectify the issues found during this audit. We are also addressing issues found during usability testing with people with disability.

Eforms

In September 2023, Digital Access at Vision Australia completed a Post-rectification Review of the City of Boroondara eForms. This assessment was also completed in line with the Website Accessibility Conformance Evaluation Methodology (WCAG-EM) 1.0.

On 13 September 2023 when the final review was carried out, City of Boroondara eForms satisfied all Level A and Level AA success criteria of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 specification.

Digital Access commends the City of Boroondara for the considerable effort they have invested in creating a technically accessible website

This accessibility statement was updated in August 2023.
