Cultural Diversity Week takes place from 17 to 23 March this year. It provides us with an opportunity to embrace and celebrate the rich multicultural fabric of the Boroondara community.
Boroondara is home to residents from over 150 countries, speaking more than 120 languages and practising over 39 religions. More than half of Boroondara’s residents are second-generation Australians, with 56% having one or both parents born overseas.

During Cultural Diversity Week, Boroondara will host exciting events and activities to mark the occasion. Highlights include:
- an event at Kew Library with Daizy Maan in conversation with authors Natasha Pinto and Preeti Maharaj on Wednesday 12 March
- community and faith leaders sharing insights into what community and personal peace means to them at the Pathways to Peace gathering, at Central Gardens, Hawthorn on Sunday 16 March
- a performance that showcases the rich tapestry of multicultural Australia with Kavisha Mazzella at Kew Seniors Centre on Tuesday 18 March ($5 at the door)
- R&B and soul evening with singer-songwriter Glen Wee at Kew Court House on Thursday 20 March
- kite decorating workshop with kites from various cultures at Camberwell Library on Friday 21 March
- community bystander training at Canterbury Neighbourhood Centre on Friday 21 March
- Indonesian shadow puppet performance at Hawthorn Arts Centre on Saturday 22 March
- traditional Chinese drumming workshop at Greythorn Community Hub on Sunday 23 March.

International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
During Cultural Diversity Week, we invite you to reflect on March 21, the UN’s International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. This day highlights the importance of celebrating and advocating for multicultural communities around the world. We encourage ongoing conversations about diversity, belonging and inclusion long after Cultural Diversity Week has ended.
