Following a break during the pandemic, the Boroondara Urban Design Awards returned in 2023. Winners were announced on 26 June. 

The 2023 Boroondara Urban Design Awards received over 60 nominations across 6 categories, including the newly introduced Best Sustainable Development award. 

The nominations were assessed against criteria such as: 

  • contribution to the public realm 
  • access and inclusion 
  • excellence in design 
  • sustainability. 

The judging panel consisted of City of Boroondara councillors Cr Lisa Hollingsworth, Cr Wes Gault, Cr Garry Thompson and Cr Nick Stavrou and urban design experts Rob McGauran, Director of MGS Architects, and Craig Czarny, Director of Hansen Partnership.
