A Boroondara Library membership gives you free access to thousands of eBooks, audiobooks and digital magazines on Libby and BorrowBox to read on your phone, tablet, computer and eReaders (excluding Kindle). Refer to our eBooks and audiobooks page for help signing up to Libby or BorrowBox.

Libby by Overdrive

Access Libby eBooks and audiobooks on a mobile device

  1. Open the Libby app.
  2. Select 'Yes' to confirm you have a library membership. Then select 'I'll search for a library'.
  3. Search for and select 'Boroondara Library Service'.
  4. Select 'Enter library account details' then enter your library membership number and PIN.
  5. Select 'Next' then either browse or use the magnifying glass icon to search for a particular title or author.
  6. Once you've found a title, select 'Borrow' and follow the prompts.
  7. Borrowed titles will appear on your shelf, under the book icon.

Access Libby eBooks and audiobooks on a web browser

  1. Go to the Libby website (or use the original Overdrive website) and select 'Sign in with my card'.
  2. Enter your library membership number and PIN, then select 'Sign in'.
  3. Select 'Next' then either browse or use the magnifying glass icon to search for a particular title or author.
  4. Once you've found a title, select 'Borrow' and follow the prompts.
  5. Borrowed titles will appear on your shelf, under the book icon.

Bolinda BorrowBox

Access BorrowBox eBooks and audiobooks on a mobile device

  1. Open the Borrowbox app.
  2. Search for and select 'Boroondara Library Service'.
  3. Enter your library membership number and PIN, then select ‘Sign in’.
  4. To browse the collection, use the navigation panel at the bottom of the screen. To search for a specific title, select the magnifying glass icon.
  5. Once you've found a title, select 'Borrow' and then select 'Read now' or 'Listen now' 
  6. Borrowed titles will appear under ‘My loans’.

Access BorrowBox eBooks on a web browser

  1. Sign in to the BorrowBox website with your library membership number and PIN.
  2. To search for a specific title or author, select the magnifying glass icon.
  3. Once you've found a title, select 'Borrow', ‘Confirm loan’ and ‘Read now’.
  4. Select ‘Read online’ to access the eBook in your web browser.
  5. Borrowed titles will appear under 'My loans'.

Download BorrowBox audiobooks to your computer

  1. Sign in to the BorrowBox website with your library membership number and PIN.
  2. To search for a specific title or author, select the magnifying glass icon.
  3. Once you've found a title, select 'Borrow', ‘Confirm loan’ and ‘Listen now’.
  4. Choose to either ‘Download complete audiobook’ or download in parts.
  5. Locate the downloaded audiobook file on your computer. You'll find a user guide included in this file with further instructions.

Download an eBook to your computer

  1. Install Adobe Digital Editions from the Adobe website onto your computer.
  2. Create an Adobe ID by using the Adobe Sign up eform.
  3. Open Adobe Digital Editions and select 'Help, Authorize computer'. Select 'Adobe ID' from the drop-down menu and enter your Adobe ID and password.
  4. For Libby eBooks: navigate to the login page on the Libby website and log in with your library membership number and PIN. Go to your shelf (book icon), select 'Manage loan', then 'Read with' and select EPUB.
  5.  For BorrowBox eBooks: navigate to the login page on BorrowBox website and log in with your library membership number and PIN. Go to 'My loans', select 'Read' and then 'Download for eReader (Adobe ePub)'.
  6. Double-click on the downloaded ePub file to open it Adobe Digital Editions. From here you can read inside Adobe Digital Editions or transfer the file to an eReader (Kindles excepted) following the steps below.

Transfer an eBook to an eReader

  • Complete the steps in the 'Download an eBook to your computer' section, above.
  • Open the downloaded eBook file in Adobe Digital Editions.
  • Attach your eReader to the computer.
  • Once the eReader device name appears in the list on the left side of Adobe Digital Editions, drag your downloaded ebook onto the eReader device name.
  • Disconnect the eReader and start reading.
Please note: our library eBooks and audiobooks aren't compatible with Kindle eReaders.

You can search for an eBook or audiobook in several ways:

Return or renew eBooks and audiobooks

If you borrow an eBook or audiobook, you'll receive an email reminder before the end of your loan period.

Follow the instructions in the email to return or renew your items, or allow your access to automatically expire at the end of the loan.
