We are renewing the playground at Kate Campbell Reserve in Kew due to its age and condition.
Status
Upgrades to the car park and a small section of the road opposite the playground on Kellett Grove started in late January 2024. These works are complete and vehicles can now access the area.
Construction of the playground will start from Thursday 4 April 2024. We expect to complete construction of the playground by late June 2024 (subject to weather conditions).
Expected impacts
During construction, the playground and parking area opposite the playground on Kellett Grove will be closed.
Pedestrian access to all other areas of Kate Campbell Reserve will remain open. This includes the:
- adjacent open spaces
- walking routes and pathways.
Community consultation

About the project
The new playground design will:
- improve accessibility
- complement the surrounding reserve
- ensure the play equipment meets the needs of families both now and into the future.
Key features of the upgrade include:
- accessible pathways in and around the playground
- a new play unit with a cubby house
- an accessible basket swing
- toddler and child swings
- a seating area next to the swings
- upgraded picnic furniture
- park benches overlooking the playground.
Changes to car parking
Council is committed to constructing a car park in Kellett Grove that complies with Australian Standards and ensures protection of the existing trees during and post-construction. Given the close proximity of trees to the car park, adjustments to the existing parking arrangements have been made to ensure minimising risk to the trees.
The renewed car park provides 5 line-marked parking spaces, including one dedicated accessible parking space.
