Help is at hand this Mental Health Month

October is Mental Health Month and we’re shining a spotlight on the challenges of motherhood and parenting in the early years.

Boroondara mum Georgia recently sat down with our Maternal Child Health Service (MCH) to share her story.

“Becoming a new mum is like getting a role that you’ve never done before, without a job description and no experience, and you’re expected to hit the ground running. Immediately.”

Through MCH, Georgia was connected with educational and social programs including the MCH breastfeeding clinic and sleep and settling clinic.

“These things actually just increased my confidence and after that it was so much easier,” she says. “It kind of helped with my sanity.”

If you’re facing parenting challenges or are parenting a child with health or behavioural issues, you’re not alone. MCH services are available to new and existing parents who live in Boroondara (for children aged zero to 4 years).
