Christmas bin collections and festive waste tips

Just like Santa has his helpers, our Boroondara waste team will be out and about over the Christmas break.

Alternative bin dates

Bin collections usually scheduled for Mondays will change over the festive season.

  • Your Christmas Day (25 December) collection will move to Saturday 23 December.
  • Your New Years Day collection (1 January) will move to Saturday 30 December.

Please leave your bins out the night before for these dates. All other kerbside bin collections will remain as usual during this time.

Christmas tree collection

We offer a free Christmas tree collection service for residents.

Simply book online and place your unwanted Christmas tree on your nature strip for collection. Collections will run from Monday 1 January to Friday 2 February for real trees only (plastic or artificial trees will not be taken).

Book from Monday 18 December at our Book a bundled green waste collection page.

Christmas recycling tips

  • Unless it’s plastic-coated or shiny, wrapping paper can be recycled.
  • Food scraps, paper serviettes, prawn heads, seafood scraps and meat bones can go in your FOGO bin.
  • Oyster shells can’t go in your FOGO – place them in your waste bin.
  • Recycle corks at Dan Murphy’s in Kew.
