Some of our services and centres have different hours on public holidays. Where times are different from usual, details are shown below.

Customer service
Customer service counters are closed on all public holidays, but calls to (03) 9278 4444 will be automatically transferred to the emergency after-hours service. Find out more about our customer service counters on our Contact us page.
You'll still be able to access many of our services online, including:
- Making payments for building and planning permits, parking fines, Council invoices, business registrations, animal fines or rates on our Pay page
- Booking a Christmas tree collection on our Book a Christmas tree collection page
- Booking a hard waste collection on our Hard waste collection page
- Applying for a parking permit on our Residential parking permits page
- Renewing your pet registration on our Renew your pet registration page.
Waste services
Household bin collections
Bins are collected on every day of the year, except:
- Good Friday
- Christmas Day
- New Year’s Day.
Look up your address on our Find your bin day page to find your alternative collection dates for these public holidays.
Please leave your bins out the night before your new collection dates.
Boroondara Recycling and Waste Centre
The centre is open every day of the year, except:
- Good Friday
- Christmas Day
- New Year’s Day.

Kew Depot Recycling drop-off centre

Arts and library services
Libraries
Our libraries are closed on all public holidays. However, you can still access our online services on our Collections page.
Hawthorn Arts Centre and Town Hall Gallery
The Hawthorn Arts Centre and Town Hall Gallery are closed on all public holidays.

Heath and recreation services
Maternal and Child Health services
Our services aren’t available on public holidays or weekends. We offer services on weekdays by appointment only.
Newborn babies will get home visits. You can make an appointment on our Maternal and Child Health service page.
You can also contact the 24-hour Maternal and Child Health Advisory service on 13 22 29.
Immunisation services
Immunisation services do not run on public holidays.
To book an immunisation appointment, visit our Immunisation page or call (03) 9278 4711.
Aquatic and leisure centres
For opening hours on public holidays, please visit the recreation centre websites:

Boroondara Youth Hub

Services for seniors
Transport and social support services don’t operate on public holidays. We will schedule replacement services around the public holidays.
Other types of care for seniors in Boroondara are provided by a range of registered aged care providers. Please contact your provider for information about their public holiday operations.
