Event details

After more than a decade of advocacy and planning, we started construction to replace the northern land bridge section of the Walmer Street Bridge in late-2022.

This section of the bridge (owned and managed by the City of Boroondara) was in poor condition and needed to be replaced. With funding support from the Australian Government, our works have resulted in:

  • a safer shared path for pedestrians and cyclists through an increase in the bridge’s width (from 1.7 m to 3.3 m) and handrail lighting
  • the bridge meeting the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 through the decrease in the bridge’s steepness
  • structural improvements to the bridge and to the staircase down to the riverbank
  • an improvement to the bridge’s overall look and convenience.

We completed our works to replace this section of the bridge in October 2023. Salta Properties then completed their works on the southern land bridge (owned and managed by the City of Yarra) in December 2023, at which point the full length of the bridge officially reopened to the public.

We’re hosting a small event to acknowledge these important improvements to the northern land bridge on Tuesday 27 August 2024 at 2 pm.

The event will include special guest speakers and a ribbon cutting ceremony.

No bookings are required.
