Event details
It’s hard to resist the appeal of Andy McGarvie’s mischievous candour. A Melbourne-born, and until recently London-based singer-songwriter, Andy’s music tells the tale of a world-wearied journeyman finding resolve and redemption in music and love, mostly reflecting in his own way, on the things that affect everyone, occasionally about the things that are more unique.
A guitarist’s guitarist; a troubadour for the ages; a commentator on the state of the world and an observer of heartfelt truths. Andy will have you one minute contemplating your past loves and and your future decisions, and the next dancing along, footloose and fancy free.
McGarvie has spent equal parts of his musical life as both a songwriter and bandleader, as well as a gun-for-hire session musician both in his home of Melbourne and in his adopted home of London. His 10-piece band tribute to Paul Simon, and new show featuring Bobby Valentin celebrating B.B. King's Riding With the King has lit up stages all over Melbourne and regional victoria to rave reviews, and is a regular at Melbourne's blues home Beneath Driver Lane as part of the Blues Roulette collective.
He has been nominated as a finalist in both the Vanda and Young Songwriting Prize, as well as the Melbourne Blues Society’s performer of the year. It is under his own moniker, however, that McGarvie really honed his craft, finding the liberty to truly express himself.
