‘The Antipodes in Words and Pictures’ is a community exhibition featuring artist Gosia Lapinski and poet Michal Lapinski. A collaboration between father and daughter, this exhibition explores the experience of leaving behind all that is familiar and making a new home in an unknown place.
Through image and verse, Gosia and Michal illustrate their first impressions of their new home in Australia after leaving Poland when Gosia was a child in the 1980s during martial law. Inspired by Michal’s poetry and using digital techniques to intertwine mediums, Gosia depicts each subject as a painting and drawing, speaking to the experiences of a person seeing home from multiple perspectives, none fully resolving or obscuring each other.
‘The Antipodes in Words and Pictures’ is an exhibition exploring immersion in a fascinating environment full of discoveries, warmth, and beauty, as well as alienation, distance, and loss.
