About the opportunity
We are seeking to work with an artist with a Chinese background, or someone who specialises in Chinese artforms, to create an interactive display for Lunar New Year. This project will feature a self-guided activity resulting in an exhibition outcome to be shown in the Explore and Create space at Hawthorn Arts Centre.
A budget of $1,500 is available, and artists applying for this opportunity can decide how to allocate these funds.
The activity is scheduled to run from Monday 20 January to Friday 28 February 2025 (6 weeks), with Lunar New Year falling on Wednesday 29 January 2025.
Installation and pack-down is the responsibility of the artist.

About our Explore and Create space
Explore and Create is a free, hands-on activities space for art lovers of all ages. A range of creative and art-focused activities are on offer, often related to the current exhibitions at Town Hall Gallery or special one-off art projects responding to days and festivals of significance. Paint, sketch, weave, collage and much more in this creative and dynamic space on your next visit to Hawthorn Arts Centre.
The space undergoes multiple transformations throughout the year, allowing participants to explore new themes and bring their ideas to life. Activities in Explore and Create often end in an exhibition, where works created in the space can be added to an evolving installation. Alternatively, participants can take their creations home.
