On Tuesday 19 March the much-loved Greythorn Icons were re-installed at Greythorn Shopping Centre following successful conservation treatment. Under very windy conditions they were craned back into place under the careful supervision of Curator Elle Hale and conservators from Grimwade Conservation Services.
The series of five carved wooden sculptures were commissioned by City of Boroondara in 2000, created by artist Angela Polglaze and are part of the Town Hall Gallery Collection. In June 2023 the works were de-installed and moved offsite for fumigation and repair. The conservation process uncovered considerable internal damage including wood rot and active ant nests. The associated repair and repainting of the works has taken over eight months – it is great to see the works returned to their home.
